The Beauty of Enough
There is a question we do not ask ourselves often enough.
When was the last time you felt light?
Not accomplished. Not relieved that another deadline had passed or another responsibility had been taken care of. Just… light.
It can be a surprisingly difficult question to answer. Not because joy has disappeared from our lives, but because somewhere along the way many of us stopped making room for it. We became so focused on keeping everything moving that we learned to celebrate being productive more than being present. Days became schedules to manage, problems to solve, and expectations to meet. Before we knew it, life became something we were getting through instead of something we were living.
Many women carry more than anyone realizes. We support families, build careers, nurture friendships, care for our communities, and keep showing up even when our own tanks are running low. Strength becomes so familiar that we rarely stop to ask what it is costing us. We become experts at pushing through, convincing ourselves that we will rest, laugh, celebrate, or simply breathe a little deeper once life becomes less demanding. Yet life has a way of replacing one busy season with another, leaving joy waiting for a time that never quite arrives.
The truth is, joy was never meant to be reserved for special occasions. It was never something we had to earn after proving ourselves worthy enough or productive enough. Joy belongs in the middle of ordinary Tuesdays, unfinished to do lists, and imperfect seasons. It lives in conversations that make us lose track of time, in the warmth of the sun on our face during a morning walk, in music playing while dinner cooks, in laughter that catches us by surprise, and in the quiet satisfaction of knowing that, for just a moment, we allowed ourselves to simply be.
When we spend long periods in survival mode, those moments can feel unfamiliar. Some women even experience guilt when they slow down, as though enjoying life means they are neglecting something more important. But joy is not the opposite of responsibility. It is often what gives us the capacity to carry our responsibilities with greater presence, compassion, and resilience. It reminds us that we are human before we are everything else the world asks us to be.
At Empower Her Mind, we believe growth is not only about becoming more. It is also about remembering who you are beneath the pressure, the expectations, and the constant doing. Sometimes the most meaningful growth begins when you give yourself permission to experience your life as it is today, rather than waiting for everything to feel complete before you allow yourself to enjoy it.
So today, pause for a moment. Notice the things you would normally rush past. Stay a little longer in the conversation that makes you smile. Step outside and feel the warmth of the day. Laugh without wondering whether you have earned it. Let yourself experience one small moment of joy without feeling the need to explain it.
You deserve a life that is made up of more than surviving it. And sometimes, the smallest moments of joy are what gently lead us back to ourselves.
If this reflection resonated with you, we hope it encourages you to pause today and notice one ordinary moment that brings you joy. We’d love for you to share it with our community because sometimes one woman’s moment of light becomes another woman’s reminder to look for her own.
